Our Story

I’m Bex, the founder, owner, creator and tea maker here at Didi Mala HQ.

The name Didi Mala comes from my Indian heritage, combining my middle name, Kamala, with that of my Didi (Great Aunt). For me, memories of family celebrations were always defined by the jewellery I was *finally* allowed to adorn myself with – and for us it was definitely a case of more is more. Since then, my love for jewellery has grown hand-in-hand with my thirst for travel, and I have a reputation for being able to hunt out all things shiny in markets across the world.

But it was only in late 2019 that the idea for Didi Mala was hatched. I‘d hit burn-out in my corporate retail career and, following a moment of clarity during a holiday to Greece, knew I needed change. Shortly after, I attended a short course in jewellery making and that was it, I realised I could turn my lifelong passion into my dream job.

It all started with the rings, and gradually evolved into the collections you see today. And whilst I’m excited to grow Didi Mala, I’m determined that every piece is handmade, personally checked by me, and unique – always.

When I’m not hammering metal into submission on my workbench, or entertaining our gorgeous new baby, I can be found chasing sunsets with my partner Nick, or walking our dog Bella along the Cornish coastline.

I’m proud to say I put sustainability at the core of every creation. From the Recycled silver used in each piece, to the recycled and reusable packaging – I even walk to the local post office to send off your goodies. I strive to create pieces that last a lifetime, whilst still being worn every day.
